Well the first half was a bit quiet for me as I overindulged in jelly and ice cream, but meanwhile, the Goal Machine had already bagged a hat-trick as Barkerettes went in 3-2 up at the break.

And then it happened.

Nicodemus said that, now he had seen Jesus, he could die happy. It was bit like that with me and goals from Candice Bree Taylor, which proved frustratingly elusive to behold, so much so that I was beginning to think a conspiracy was afoot.

However, just 2 minutes into the second half, D’Ortenzio crossed from the right, and Taylor let rip with an unstoppable screamer from 2 yards, so the myth was put to rest.

Eight minutes later, a beautiful through ball from Nogueira set up D’Ortenzio with only the keeper to beat. A crisp finish into the bottom corner made it 5-2.

Then the crowning moment for our centurion of the day, as Nogueira rampaged through the alarmingly-named Duckettes, played a nice one-two with Caven and slotted home for the cherry on the cake of the day.
———-
– Congratulation to Monique Nogueira, who is the 11th Barkerette to play 100 games. She is the 3rd of those players to score in her 100th game, following Robyn Clausen and Amy D’Ortenzio

– Welcome to the 2 debutants:
Barkerette number 105 – Kat Dean
106 – Sarah Dixon

Robyn Clausen‘s first game since 2014, but hubby Reuben Clausen can rest easy for a while, as they are still tied on 55 goals for 3rd all-time top scorer

Candice Bree Taylor‘s first goal since 2015, and remarkably she is now in the top 20 scorers

– The 6th anniversary of our first cup game ends with the same scoreline, so Sean Perrin matches Andrew Mashoian with a 6-2 cup win on his coaching debut

– What more can be said about you-know-who? The 40th Barkerette hat-trick, her own 20th hat-trick, and on 10 of those occasions she has scored either 4 or 5

– First-ever game against Deakin University, who are our 47th different opponent
